When I refused to work for free...

Been quite some time since my last post and a lot of things have happened since then. Let me start with December.

A Kolkata-based online tabloid, where I was a freelancer, fired me because I refused to work for free! Can you beat that? This coordinator told me, "Your services are no longer required" when I told her I wouldn't work on a blog for which I wouldn't be paid. She was like "I thought you were passionate about it...it doesn't take much time..with this mercenary attitude you wouldn't go far" and all the bullshit bla bla.

I'm not going into the debate if I am actually passionate about writing or not. But say, I was passionate, wouldn't I express myself through my own blog rather than someone else's who wouldn't even pay me if I did?

Anyway, they were supposed to pay me for three articles of mine that they had already published when this woman told me my "services are no longer required." I'd said, "Ok, just give me my cheques." And she was like, "I wouldn't coordinate with you anymore." She wouldn't even tell me when the cheques come! Gosh and to think someone as kiddish as this was giving me gyan on how to "go far" (by writing for free).

Anyway, I had more than a couple of sources who could tell me when the cheques came. But I didn't need to use then as the coordinator did email me when they came.

Other than that, I have got a new job in a newspaper. Joined in the first week of February and it's going good.

Wine-making is in the process. Hope it comes out good. I have improvised on the recipe like every time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm planning to move into a Dhakuria flat tomorrow. I got to buy a bed as well. Let's see if I can manage it all tomorrow.
